Taking an existing sequence from the 2015 blockbuster movie: "Star Wars: The Force Awakens”, Tim tackles a particulary sensitive moment of review and reflection over the Star Wars franchise and demonstrates that sometimes a quieter subtle work, can be a very good accompaniment.
This piece was a great exercise in creating tension as the piece has a one-minute-long build-up. I’ve used the chord progression of E minor – A minor – E major that slowly builds more layers as the scene progresses, such as the introduction of the spiccato strings at 0:12 and brass at 0:22.
The main climax at 0:50 has a subtle harmonic ‘nod’ to the original Star Wars main theme by John Williams. The climax gets its intensity from Legion Series’ 66 Trombones and Cellos.
The section after the climax builds upon the chord progression from the beginning, with more subtle ‘nods’ to the original within the brass and string sections. At 1:17 I have modulated from E minor to G minor to carry on building the tension to the final imperfect cadence, back in E minor.
